New York University’s Kanbar Institute of Film and Television
At the NYU Maurice Kanbar Institute of Film and Television, graduate
students develop their creative talent through actual production experience.
Of the more than 800 applicants, only 5% are admitted to the highly
selective three-year graduate program each year. NYU Kanbar shares the vast
resources available at NYU’s world-renowned Tisch School of the Arts
to create an extraordinary training ground for the individual artist. As one
of the nation's leading centers of undergraduate and graduate study in the

Russ Axelrod, Co-Founder, Advisor - Sponsorship
Russ is a 2005 graduate of the Stern School of Business. He is currently
Manager of Entertainment, Digital and Alternative marketing for Microsoft's
Xbox division where he is focusing on creating original programming for the
Xbox brand. Previously, Russ was the Director of Business Development for
Full Circle Entertainment, Omnicom's branded entertainment division. Russ
has also served in various marketing and strategy roles for such firms as:
Games Media Properties (William Morris Agency), Time Inc., Ziff-Davis
Publishing and Zilo Networks.
Jeffrey Grossman, Co-Founder, Advisor
Jeff received his MBA from NYU Stern School of Business in 2004. Jeff is
currently Director of Client Innovation at CBS Television where he oversees
the integration of advertisers into broadcast, online and other emerging
content. Prior to CBS, Jeff was a production and marketing executive for
independent film and television distributor Stratosphere Entertainment. He
has served as a business development advisor for Communiqué Advertising in
New York and for Metropolis Films, one of the largest commercial, film and
television production houses in Latin America. Jeff began his career at
Miramax Films.
Erik Zuckermann, Co-Founder
Erik received his MBA at NYU Stern School of Business specializing in
Entertainment, Media and Technology in 2003. Erik co-founded ProMotion
Pictures when serving as Vice President of NYU Stern’s Media and
Entertainment Association. Currently, Erik is CEO of MovieNet, an online
movie rental subscription service provider in Mexico. Prior to starting
MovieNet, Erik was the Director of Development for AltaVista Films, Mexico´s
largest movie studio. Before Erik pursued his MBA at NYU Stern, he was a
Private Banker at Bank Hapoalim and a Consultant for the World Bank.
Michael Altschul, Executive Producer
Michael, a first-year MBA student at NYU Stern, worked several years
at a San Francisco-based Wealth Management firm in IT strategy and
project management. He joined Stern to help him propel a hobby in
film into a career through both classroom education and student-run
initiatives like ProMotion Pictures. In addition this role, he is
also VP of New Media with Stern's Technology and New Media Group.
Michael received his BS in Economics at the University of California
at Berkeley.
Andy Amendola, Executive Producer
Andy is a first year MBA student at the Stern School of Business who has
a background in advertising. He graduated from the Roberto Goizueta School
of Business at Emory with a BBA in marketing and international business. Upon
graduating he moved to New York to work as a media buyer at Universal McCann on the
Coca Cola and Sony Pictures accounts. He then transferred to WingLatino, Grey’s
Hispanic Advertising agency, to work in media planning. He spent two years there
helping grow the Diageo business. He contributed to landing the Volkswagen account
and worked on tailoring their strategy for the US Hispanic market. Andy is knowledgeable
about general and multicultural marketing and is fluent in Spanish as well as proficient in French.
Andrew Harrison, Executive Producer
Andrew is a part-time first year MBA student at NYU Stern and works full-time as the IT Administrator
of the NYU School of Social Work. He was a
Production Assistant for two years and during that time worked on numerous films and television
shows including A Knight's Tale and Spin City. Andrew received a BFA in Film & Television
from the Kanbar Institute at NYU Tisch School of the Arts.
Shiami Ranasinghe, Executive Producer
Shiami is a first year MBA student at the Stern School of Business with over five years of experience in the cable broadcast industry. Prior to Stern, Shiami was a development manager at National Geographic Channels International where she traveled to international markets in search of innovative documentary programming. She was the lead development executive for NGCI's signature series "No Borders," showcasing cutting edge feature length documentaries from around the world. Shiami graduated from McGill University in Montreal with a degree in International Development and Geography.
Talia Camarena, Executive Producer
After graduating with a BA in Economics from Columbia University in 2003, Talia spent four years working in television in New York, Los Angeles, and abroad. Her past employers include VH1, NBC Olympics, and Fuse Networks. Working within Production Management and Operations, her responsibilities have ranged from that of liaising with production companies about logistics and finance to managing and executing large-scale shows and shoots. She is now a first-year MBA at Stern, and is planning to specialize in Entertainment, Media and Technology and Marketing.
Ashvini Naidu, Executive Producer
Ashvini is a first-year MBA student at NYU’s Stern School of Business. She comes to Stern from a public relations background where she supported several hi-tech clients in their efforts to improve and increase their corporate visibility and product awareness among the media, industry influencers, and the tech community. Ashvini graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies.
Jonas Greenberg, Advisor
Prior to attending Stern, Jonas worked for the Senior Vice President of
Marketing, at Twentieth Century Fox Television, where he managed the
integration of products, brands, and technologies onto the shows TCFT
produced. In addition, Jonas partnered with executives from several News
Corporation subsidiaries to help plan and execute the 2005 re-launch of the
hit animated series, Family Guy. He took his position at the studio after
spending a year in the William Morris Agency, Agent Trainee Program. Jonas
received his BA in History from the University of Pennsylvania in 2001 and
is originally from Newton, Massachusetts.
Olivia Leon, Advisor
Before coming to Stern, Olivia produced promotional commercials for Food
Network, and more recently The Oxygen Network, where she won six awards for
her work. Olivia has a BA in Communications from the University of
Pennsylvania.
Advisory Board
Samuel Craig
Professor Samuel Craig is the director of the Entertainment, Media and
Technology Program at New York University Stern School of Business. He
currently teaches courses in advertising management, marketing management,
among others. A twenty year veteran of NYU Stern, his primary research areas
of interest include advertising strategy, the entertainment industry,
international marketing and marketing strategy. He has published several
books and is currently on the editorial boards of the Journal of Advertising
Research and the International Journal of Advertising.
John Tintori
John Tintori is the Chair, Graduate Film & TV, Kanbar Institute of Film &
Television at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. John has edited over a dozen
feature length films, including EIGHT MEN OUT, TRUE LOVE, DOGFIGHT, and
MISTER WONDERFUL. In addition to his feature credits, John has edited
numerous TV commercials, music videos, and short films, including TREVOR,
which won the Oscar for Best Dramatic Short Film in 1995. He has been a
member of the faculty at Tisch since 1997.
Brett Ratner
Brett Ratner enrolled in New York University’s Tisch School of Arts when he
was sixteen, becoming the department’s youngest film major. He has since
established himself as one of Hollywood’s most successful directors. By the
time he was twenty-six years old, he directed his first feature film, the
box office hit, “Money Talks,” starring Charlie Sheen and Chris Tucker. His
second film, the action comedy “Rush Hour,” starring Jackie Chan and Chris
Tucker, earned $250 million worldwide. His film, “Red Dragon,” made box
office history in 2002 as the biggest opening weekend in October and went on
to gross $250 million worldwide.
Doug Scott
With over twelve years of marketing experience, Douglas Scott has developed
and produced some of the most successful integrated marketing programs for
Fortune 500 companies. He is currently General Manager and Senior Vice
President of Bragman Nyman Cafarelli (BNC) Marketing and Public Relations
New York operation. Some of BNC’s clients include: General Motors, American
Express, PlayStation 2, T-Mobile, Jordan brand, MAXIM and Sport Illustrated.
Prior to BNC, Doug had also served as Executive Vice President, Marketing
and Branded Entertainment Creative Director at Hypnotic where he co-created
and executive produced the highly acclaimed Chrysler Million Dollar Film
Festival. Doug has successfully produced dozens of other entertainment
properties, including: LOHAS 8, and “Diddy Runs the City” (MTV). Doug was
also a co-founder of Red Herring Magazine where he served as the VP of Sales
& Marketing.
Michael Kassan
Michael is a nationally recognized leader in the area of media and
entertainment currently acting as a strategic/brand development consultant
to brands and companies including Home Depot, DIC Entertainment, Mindshare
Worldwide, Warner Home Entertainment, Revolution Studios, Microsoft, and
Verizon. Previously, Mr. Kassan was the President/Chief Operating Officer
and Vice-Chairman of Initiative Media Worldwide a division of The
Interpublic Group of Companies (IPG:NYSE), at the time, the largest and most
diversified media management company in the world. In 1997, he was named one
of the top media executives in America by Advertising Age magazine. Mr.
Kassan, an attorney has also served as President and Chief Operating Officer
of International Video Entertainment (Artisan Entertainment) and as a
director and advisor to many charitable and community organizations,
including the Hollywood Radio and Television Society, the Board of the
American Advertising Federation, H.E.L.P Group, Big Brothers of Los Angeles,
and Skirball Cultural Center.
Sheril D. Antonio
Master Teacher, Associate Arts Professor of Film and Television; Associate
Dean for Film, Television, and New Media B.F.A., M.A., Ph.D., New York. Film
lecturer and scholar. Author of Contemporary African American Cinema (Peter
Lang, Inc., 2002). Contributing writer, New Black Cinema - When
Self-Empowerment Becomes Assimilation (Bertz Verlag, 2005) and Black World +
Sight & Sound (British Film Institute, 2005). Special Guest on WNYC, 93.9
FM, Orpheus: To Hell and Back, (2005). Judge for NAACP ACT-SO and Panasonic
Kid Witness News. Received Curricular Development Challenge Grant for first
NYU course in African American cinema (1991). Recipient of the NYU Special
ABFAS Appreciation Award (2000), the Gallatin School Adviser of the Year
